New Millennial Project
The future of Dallas rests on our ability to educate and civically engage young people. New Millennial Project is designed to walk students through the role, responsibilities, and impact that school board members have on education and communities. NMP provides the unique opportunity for students to have a direct influence on the election process by allowing students to leverage their experience and voice to help choose and support the leaders that represent their communities.
What Will I Learn?
Students selected to the New Millennial Project will participate in a series of workshops that provide them the opportunity to learn and directly engage with vital information and key education leaders.
November 9th February 1st
November 23rd February 15th
December 14th March 7th
Sample Workshop Topics
Workshop 1: Bigger Than Class - What is a school board and how do their decisions impact my school?
Workshop 2: The Formula - Understanding the school board election process.
Workshop 3: Using You Voice - How to have a major impact when you cannot vote.
WHAT WILL I Do?
Students will gain an understanding of the complex decisions school boards make including but not limited to funding, opening new schools, evaluating teachers & principals, and school safety. Each session will include hands-on activities, open discussions, and guest speakers where students can share their experiences, ask questions of district leaders, and engage with community leaders working to help Dallas ISD continue its improvement.
Upon completing the cohort, students will participate in the Dallas Kids First endorsement process. As a member of the endorsement panel, students share their valuable experience and voice their perspective towards the final candidate endorsement decision. NMP participants who attend all workshops will also be eligible for paid campaign opportunities that will give them first-hand experience and a chance to add a stellar addition to their resume.
